Frequently asked questions

Custom and personalized orders

I do not accept custom orders at this time due to personal time constraints.

Handcrafted Jewelry

All jewelry is made by hand using real stone (not glass or plastic, unless otherwise noted) and metal such as copper, pewter, etc. Metal stamped items are hand stamped by me here in Tennessee. Because I work with natural materials and craft jewelry by hand, variations in color and appearance are natural. I try to represent the product as well as possible in my photos.

The lava rock used in the essential oil diffusing jewelry will absorb the oils and maintain the smell for 1-2 days. It does take a moment for the rock to absorb the essential oil, so the suggested use is to place the essential oil on the lava beads and allow to absorb for 30 seconds before putting on jewelry.

Crocheted and Sewn Items

Washcloths and other crochet items are crocheted by hand using natural materials such as cotton or wool. All sewn items are made with natural materials such as cotton unless otherwise noted. Items are sewn by machine unless otherwise noted. Embroidery items are hand-embroidered.

It is suggested that they be washed by hand or using a gentle cycle either by themselves or with other delicates and hung to dry to protect quality and longevity. Delicate items can also be washed inside a pillowcase for extra protection.

The Care and Keeping of Soap

Handmade soaps are special and you will want to make them last for as long as possible. There are things you can do at home to increase the longevity of your soap. Most importantly, never let your bars stand in a wet soap dish. They should be stored in a dry area that is open to the air to prevent them from "melting." Allowing the bars to stay wet and soft between uses will shorten their lifespan.

It is also recommended to use a washcloth or loofah when using your soaps in the bath, as these tools will use less soap to cover a larger area than simply using the bar alone.

About my soaps

I have been handcrafting soap in small batches since 2008. I initially learned soap making from my grandmother as a teenager, and fell in love with the process.

I use premium ingredients such as milk from my own herd of dairy animals, bentonite clay, raw honey, colloidal oatmeal, and more. I use only sustainably harvested palm oil and food or cosmetic grade ingredients. Fragrances used are pthalate free.

Please note that each bar of soap is unique. Your bar may not look exactly like the one pictured, but the quality will always be the same.

The Role of Sodium Hydroxide (Lye) in Soap

Sodium Hyrdoxide is necessary for saponification, which is the process of turning fats and oils into soap. If someone "makes" soap without using lye, they aren't really making soap, but rather altering a pre-made soap by melting it, adding additives, and pouring it into new molds. All soap making requires lye, but there is no lye left in the finished product -- it has all gone through a chemical reaction and turned into soap.

My bars are superfatted at roughly 6% as well, meaning that there is actually more oil in the recipe than the lye can turn into soap, making the bars extra moisturizing and gentle.

Vintage Items

Vintage items are carefully curated and cleaned, polished, or restored as necessary. Keep in mind that vintage items are at least 20 years old or older, and therefore show the inevitable signs of use and wear. Personally I feel that the marks of love from prior owners makes older items even more special, but I do my best to clearly disclose any wear or flaws in the photographs and descriptions.

I also do my best to properly identify items and their age, origins and materials when possible. Sometimes if an older item is unmarked it may remain a mystery, though that may just be part of the fun!
